Sa Wakas!
U.P. ALCHEMES finally recognized
taken from PURGED! (November 1999)
The Academic League of Chemical Engineering Students can now officially
attach U.P. to its name after it was given due recognition by the College
of Engineering for Academic Year 1999-2000.
College of Engineering Dean Prof. Edgardo Atanancio signed the Certificate of
Recognition.
The Recognition was warmly received by ALCHEMES members who have long been
clamoring for a new Chemical Engineering organization in the college.
The idea of a new ChE organization has long been around but was only
formalized with a meeting by concerned citizens around February this year.
A Constitution and By-laws was immediately framed and a set of officers
elected.
The organization was initially named Alliance of Chemical Engineering but
the word "Alliance" was later removed since the Office of the
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs has reserved the word to refer to
the union of two or more organizations having the same goals. It was replaced
with "Academic League" to preserve the present acronym.
U.P. ALCHEMES has 97 members at present. Mr. Teofilo Garcia Jr., a 4th year
student, is its current president while its advisers are Prof. Florencio
Ballesteros from the Environmental Engineering Graduate Program and Mr.
Jong Vasquez from the Department of Engineering Sciences.
